Elevated LEGO Monorail and Train Station Construction Part 2

after building the skydock it was time to continue work on the train and monorail station welcome to monotown tv a channel devoted to covering everything that happens within monotone the last coastal lego city central station better known to monotoners as central is an elevated two-platform station serving both the elevated railway and the monorail built underneath the world famous skydock it's a busy hub and serves both intrusity and intercity traffic underneath central is a bus stop taxi rank and tram stop as well so this is a part of the city that is buzzing with activity first up was the elevated southern platform for the rebuild our plan was to feature longer platforms to accommodate longer trains this probably stemmed from frustration i had as a kid when i could never get a train or platform long enough the expansion to a double track elevated railway is also a great improvement and will let us run up to three trains at a time two upper and one lower not sure how many monorails will get running at a time but hopefully it will be more than one building above the street but below the skydock was a real challenge and despite trying to make sure everything fit well right away i realized i'd screwed up the corner clearance for one of the platforms time for a quick rebuild now it was time to work on access to the platforms there's not enough space to build stairs down the street level from each platform so the best bet seemed to be build up instead we needed a pedestrian overpass a large passenger elevator and a staircase for additional access in case the elevator was out of service or maybe for monotoners who just want to get their steps up i wanted the build to evoke the idea of heavy iron girders like what you still see a lot of today in chicago with their l at one point a viewer even helped out with some inspiration from the l itself by the way this is why we love building live on twitch the chat from viewers is always great and some of the ideas and suggestions that are shared are incredible the elevator required a couple of fault starts until i finally got a structure that both looked good and would operate well no plans to motorize the elevator right now but that will probably happen in the future next up was the staircase which was similarly tricky it just took a few iterations until i had something that was gonna work visually the question of placement for both the staircase and the elevator was hotly debated by chat we ultimately settled on the elevator being off the end of the pedestrian walkway and the staircase being placed between the street and the monorail the idea being that we would use the surrounding space to build a skyscraper eventually and now for the final result at least for now as always there's still plenty to build but i think this project has turned out great so far and i'm excited to get the elevated trains running again thanks for watching and if you'd like to build with us live check us out on twitch you.
