Stream Recap - Demolition MonoTown is named after its iconic monorail system, and the fast, efficient, and zero emissions trains whisk Minifigs to and from destinations all over the city. During the recent road and tramway construction, it became clear that a half built mall, office tower, and monorail station was no longer required, and it was swiftly earmarked for demolition. Demolition means removal from the city, disassembly, and sorting of the pieces, which are then added back to our sorted brick bins, ready to go for the next project.

Before we do that, lets say one final goodbye. Here is a view from the West End of MonoTown, and you can see the grand staircase that led up to the main entrance of the station, which was also built above the main rail line. This layout of buildings has now been completely rearranged, and you can see that process in other videos on our channel.

As pedestrians climbed the stairs towards the station, they would see shops on either side, and a stairwell up to the food court. You can see one of several ticket machines on the right hand side, and there was a planned expansion to other buildings via a skyway to the right. There was also a large elevator that stopped on each floor and could hold a number of minifigs at one time.

The food court included a coffee shop, newsstand, and an area to grab a quick bite while looking out on the city below. These shops were repurposed from the Bus Station (60154) set and the Town City Square (60097). I also used parts from the Train Station 60050.

The third level was where MonoTowners would catch the monorails, but was never completed, with floors above planned to be dedicated to office space. Breaking down a build involves pulling apart the pieces, and then performing a rough sort. We separate the pieces into general types like bricks, slopes, plates, panels, and other broad piece categories.

Chinese food containers work well for this, and the idea is to get through it as quickly as possible. Later on the, rough sorted pieces will be further sorted down (in most cases), to individual molds, or unique pieces, and then finally stored. In the end I wasn’t sad to see this building go - it never quite worked for me, and I’m already excited to see what we’ll replace it with.
